Assistant Professor, The Lyell Centre

Alexis Cartwright-Taylor

Alexis Cartwright-Taylor is an Assistant Professor at the Lyell Centre, Heriot-Watt University. Her research examines micro-mechanics of damage localisation and faulting, fluid–rock interactions, and the statistical physics of fracture to improve predictability of material failure. She combines time-resolved X-ray microtomography, acoustic monitoring, and laboratory rock deformation experiments to observe micro-structural changes and link them to geophysical signals. Her work supports safer geothermal, CO2 storage, and hydrogen storage by quantifying micro-physical subsurface processes and associated induced-seismicity risks.
