Assistant Professor, Geoscience

Amy Gough

Amy Gough is Assistant Professor in Geoscience at Heriot-Watt University and leads the Southeast Asia Research Group. Her research focuses on reconstructing the tectonic and sedimentary evolution of Southeast Asia through provenance analysis, palaeogeography, and basin-scale synthesis. She applies GIS and sedimentary datasets to understand how sediment routing, uplift, and erosion shape basin development, with implications for carbon storage, geothermal heat, and resource recovery. Amy also contributes to international marine geoscience initiatives, helping integrate stratigraphic and source-to-sink insights into safer, more resilient subsurface energy systems.
